I began making all my own shoes and boots in 1974. In 1975, I began making my own orthotics. Later, when I combined this knowledge with my medical training, it provided a unique insight into the foot and its function and care that has enabled me to focus on non-surgical treatment of the foot. For example, I rarely give injections for heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis. Although injections are a common procedure, I feel they are not only painful, but destructive.
